Sewing Zine!

Sew-Deluxe is putting together a quarterly, craft/sewing related, old-school,  photocopied zine.  We are looking for unique submissions to include (crafty tutorials? interesting book review? article on building your own crafty business? poem about your first sewing project? cartoon?). 

Submissions should be sent to sewdeluxe@gmail.com.  We can not promise that we will print your submission, but if we do, you will get full credit, including a link to your blog, business, etsy page, whatever!  The zine will be free, will include the Sew-Deluxe calendar and class descriptions, as well as lots of other fun articles and interviews, and should hit the streets in June! 

Advertising space is also available (to help pay for the copies!).  We are formatting it for 3 sizes, all at what I think are very reasonable rates:

1/4 page (2.5" wide x 4" tall) = $15
1/2 page (5" wide x 4" tall) = $20
Full page (5" wide x 8" tall) = $40

The zine will be distributed for free at the studio, during 1st Friday events, at local restaurants and shops, music and art events, and in goody bags for the Backbeat Magazine monthly release parties, at Artslam events, and anywhere else we are welcome to hand them out!  All advertisers will be given copies to pass out for free as well.

Article submissions are due by May 21st.

Ad space will need to be paid for by May 21st and final artwork (xerox copy ready) will need to be submitted by May 28th.

Naked Lady Party (v2)

Spring is here and it's time for our 2nd Naked Lady Party!   Clean out your closets, gather at least one bag of clothing, shoes, purses or jewelry, and head on down to Sew-Deluxe on May 22nd.  We will have wine, gourmet snacks, and lots of fun!  It is a party not to be missed!  Space is limited so please reserve your spot early by calling 210-326-4945 or emailing sewdeluxe@gmail.com. 

Girls Night Out! Pretty Pincushion

One Friday a month, gather your girlfriends and head on down to Sew-Deluxe!  We will be sipping some wine and working our way through some delightfully simple, yet creative projects.  A great way to end a stressful week and start a productive weekend.

This month's project is a "Pretty Pincushion".
Friday, April 16th. 6 to 9pm.
Dig through our baskets of remnants and vintage buttons (or bring your own recyclable fabric) and make yourself a classic pincushion of any size.

$15 Wine and light hoer-devours provided.

All skill levels welcome, but ladies, 21 and up only please.

Our lush bathroom is coming along.

Almost 50 yards of fabric, 6 strings of xmas lights, and a few pieces of cookie monster blue and oscar the grouch green fur and we are on our way to creating the lushest ladies room in town!  There is still work that needs to be done which involves a box of vintage record sleeves and perhaps some super furry carpet.

Hey, we're strong believers in the right kind of tacky can be a good thing!

Naked Lady Party

Chocolate, wine, mounds of clothes, and crafty ladies...last night was so much fun!  We had 13 guests each arriving at the door with heaping bags of textile goodies, shoes and some amazing jewelry!  I admit, it got a little chaotic at times, but no fights broke out and everyone left with some new exciting items to add to their wardrobe.

I couldn't take pictures because....well...it WAS a naked lady party!  But here are some of the fun items I scored! 

The evening was such a success that we will be doing it again in April.  So start stock piling your clothing, shoes and accessories and keep an eye on our calendar. 

Gotta go to the studio in a bit to clean up the aftermath (which was well worth it!).  All the left overs are going to be donated to Dress for Success and Haven for Hope.

I enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting so many new inspiring people!  Thank you to all the wonderful women that participated. 

New Website!

So, you may be wondering what happened to the calendar and the class descriptions....they have moved....to our new website! Please check it out at http://www.sew-deluxe.com/. All the important stuff is now there: Class/Workshop Calendar, Class Descriptions, Upcoming Events, FAQs, etc. Of course, it is still in the works too. We are excited about adding more pictures, especially to the class descriptions.

Even more exciting is that we will begin using our blog as a blog, and not a catch all website for the studio. We will be posting tutorials, fun links and hopefully lots of eye candy! Just give us a little time, we have so many projects in the works I don't even know where to start.

But please, keep the blog bookmarked (or better yet subscribe) so that you can learn about all the fun things that we are doing at the studio...like the Naked Lady Party this Friday!

Naked Lady Party

A clothing swap and upscale event for ladies.

$5 plus one bag of clothes (clothing, shoes, accessories)

Light Refreshments will be served.

We will have the sewing machines set up and prepared for alterations and upcycling.
